What is Search Engine Optimization?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a process which aims at improving the visibility of a website in search engines, such as Google, Yahoo! or Bing. By conducting the right SEO procedures on a website, higher search engine results will be possible. The higher up a search engine’s result list your site appears, the more likely customers will find your business.
What needs to be remembered, however, is that SEO is not an exact science, and consequently it cannot guarantee top results. Search engines change the way they work all the time, and the best SEO can do is figure out a better way of achieving high results.
When you type in a keyword in Google, for example, you are presented with a list of results. These will come in two forms: natural (organic) and target paid.
Natural (organic) search engine results:
Natural search results are what the search engine has found in relation to the keyword entered. The higher up they appear on the search results page, the more relevant they are to the searched keyword. Search engine users tend to put great trust in the top natural results: indeed, researches have shown that over 70% of users stop scrolling through the results after the 3rd page, and will try out a different keyword instead. It is easy to see therefore, that high ranking will direct an incredible amount of traffic to the website.
Several SEO practices are used to optimize a website in order to reach higher page listings, but with organic results there is no way of guaranteeing top search positions.
Target paid results:
The other form of search results, target paid, is a form of paid advertising (pay-per-click, or PPC), and will always ensure that the advertised website appears on the top of the first page of the search engine. The advantages of this are straightforward: as long as you have your paid, keyword-related ad, your website is guaranteed to appear at the best position. What’s more, you only need to pay when a user clicks on your advertisement (hence the term: “pay-per-click”).
You need to remember though that the number of times your ad appears in the search results depends on how expensive your AdWords package is. However, if you rely exclusively on paid advertising, and no other SEO procedures have been done to your website, it is likely that your site’s ranking will drop, should you decide to stop having PPC.
Therefore we recommend you have one of our SEO packages as well, which aim at achieving good organic results. If you prefer, you can combine it with PPC advertising.
